Bids came in under budget and construction is underway at Holyoke Community Charter School (HCCS). The Studio G team designed a new 15,000 sf permanent addition for the public K-8 school with enrollment of more than 700 students. Foundation walls were recently completed, and the slab is scheduled to be poured next week, with framing to begin shortly after.
“We saw an opportunity to connect the library with the landscape. The exterior courtyard is designed as a contemplative garden with stone pathway and bamboo plantings that will serve as an extension of interior learning spaces.” – Steve Michener, Project Manager, Studio G Architects
Studio G’s design consists of 5 classrooms, a computer testing center, staff and student lavatories, service and storage areas, and a new library which spills into a landscaped courtyard. The library space contains ample book storage, a cozy reading nook, digital work stations and informal collaborative spaces. Large windows provide abundant daylight, views to the outdoors, and critical connectivity to an adjacent courtyard, which will double as a flexible outdoor classroom.
Completion is anticipated by August 2014. Stay tuned for more project news and updates!
